BT-500™
Technical Specs


BT-500™ is a concentrated solution with a low pH of 3.5. BT-500™ is safe on all surfaces, non-corrosive, and completely non-toxic. The finished product contains lives microbes plus their metabolites. These metabolites include a host of antioxidant compounds including vitamins, trace minerals, amino acids, enzymes, chelators, and other organic acids. Many of these metabolites survive the high temperatures in boiler systems and pass through during blow out, feeding beneficial microorganisms in drain systems.


Corrosion and rust are both results of oxidation reactions. Red rusts will form on metals as the moisture oxidizes and begins to deteriorate iron. Rust is a mixture of oxygen with iron. Rust consists of hydrated iron(III) oxides The iron crystallizes on the surface, displaying its natural red color. Some other oxidation reactions will display as white or gray as is seen on galvanized metals.

Cleaning products traditionally use alkaline oxidizing compounds to clean or buffer acids. These oxidizing compounds increase the incidence of corrosion and rust especially where there is any metal.

Hardness is a concentration of cations. The higher the concentration, the harder the water. Water hardness is directly related to scale build up on equipment. Scale is a combination of corrosion products from the system - such as various oxides of iron, and precipitated salts from the water. The typical precipitate is the highly insoluble calcium carbonate - it is formed when calcium hydrogen carbonate, sparingly soluble in water, is heated. As water evaporates continuously the concentration of the dissolved salts increases. When the saturation points are reached, the salts are precipitated. Removal of scale is usually done with acids. Water is generally softened by using water softening chemicals, which also include chelating agents. The picture above shows two metal pipes that were treated with BT-500™(left) and an acid (right) to remove scale and left to soak for 30 days. Salts from the hard water reacted with the acid have precipitated on the metal. Scale and corrosion are not visible on the pipe treated with BT-500™ demonstrating that the product prevents scale and corrosion and protects metal equipment.

How does this happen when using an acidic solution such as BT-500™ Simple. Something known as antioxidants and a process known as chelation. Antioxidants function exactly the opposite as oxidizers. Antioxidants tend to preserve and protect metals instead of eroding them. They are substances that slow the rate of oxidation reactions and act as chelating agents to sequester metal ions that catalyse oxidation reactions. Natural metabolites in BT-500™ will remove several oxidizing compounds such as sulfur, preventing the production of sulfuric acid in solution. Organic acids act as chelants and reduce hydroxyl ions, acting as buffers in water, adjusting the pH of the water. Several chelants are commercially used as water softening agents and are used to scale and corrosion removal. The combination of high levels of antioxidants, organic acids, and chelants result in a multi-purpose product that can protect equipment from rust and corrosion, reduce existing corrosion, and remove scale.

Compatibility with other boiler treatments: It is not advised to mix or combine BT-500™ with other boiler treatments. Storage: Store in a closed container out of direct sunlight at 40ºF-100ºF. Do not freeze.
